Interviews

A selection of interviews done for music related projects over the years.

Born in Oslo in 1938 Sven Libaek was a child prodigy on the piano already studying it seriously at the age of five. He was also a talented actor and had appeared in more than 40 plays with the Norwegian Children’s Theatre by the time he was 16. In 1956 his break came when he was selected to appear in the American film Windjammer. After completing the film and studying at the Juilliard School in New York he began touring the world with a group known as the Windjammers. It was on one of these tours that he arrived in Australia and fell in love with the country. He relocated permanently in the early sixties and began a long and successful career in music composition arranging and production. Part 1 focuses on his film and TV work.
In part one we looked at the soundtrack work of this great Australian/Norwegian composer and arranger. The pop genius of Sven Libaek is hilighted in Part 2 showcasing some of his work from the early sixties when he was A&R man for CBS Records.
Olive and Eva were two young women whose harmonies warmed many a heart that heard them, and whose 1956 recordings became the first commercially available discs released by an all indigenous act in Australia. They’re not household names but they should be. Their music is beautiful and their story fascinating.
